Master Closet Organization

One of the couple projects we worked on while my parents were visiting was our master closet.  I'd mentioned that Nate and I were stumped on how to get the most out of the small space but thankfully my dad has build and added on to their closet and he was quick to come up with a great plan for ours.  So that is exactly how we rang in the New Year, with building closet organizers until 1 in the morning or so.  Exciting, I know!  Actually for me it really was.  It was the first place in our house to have something to put things away in.  And I love the layout, there is very little or no wasted space.  Thanks Nate and Dad!

1.  Okay, can I just say that I love Pinterest!  What a fabulous invention!  I had numerous word documents on my computer full of craft projects, recipes or great ideas I had found on the internet and had no where else to store the site for the time being and what a pain it was to sift through all my word documents to try and find one of those projects that I had saved and finally had the time to try.  Well Pinterest has taken care of that problem and I have deleted all those word documents which has freed up a ton of space on our computer, it feels like I cleaned and organized my desk or something!  Well it's a digital pin board for anything you want to save that you've found while browsing the internet.  I love it for craft ideas for the kids, decorating and recipes and all kids of great tips are shared and if I find something I just add it to a specific category and it links it back to the original website.
All that to say that I got the inspiration for hanging my scarves from a picture on Pinterest.  I had seen a picture that someone posted of their scarves tied on a bar so when we went to Menards I picked out a double hanging, tiered towel rack that would give me compact, added space for my scarves to hang on.  I love it!  With the tiered towel rack I can see all my scarves easily and they are easily accessible.
Let me know if you want an invitation to Pinterest, I'd love to send you one!

2.  There are no drawers in our closet so we chose to use lined baskets, if you have ever been to my house you know I am a basket lover, I have them everywhere!  So any items like socks and underclothes and misc. items are organized in baskets in our closet.

3.  Shoes!  That was the one and only wall in our closet that I knew from the beginning what it would hold.  It was to be my wall of shoes!  We chose adjustable shelves for the best space saving ability and room to grow for our shoes.

4.  A hanging spot for dresses and skirts was essential in the design of our closet.  In our previous closet we didn't have a tall section and my dresses would drag on the ground and end up all wrinkly on the bottom.  Not pretty.  We also chose to have the bar extend the length of the wall and over the door, which I have come to love that part of the design.  I use it when hanging up my clothes to dry and when picking out outfits to wear for the day I can hang them there as well.

5.  We chose to put an extra shelf between our two hanging sections for extra space.  For now it is used for our hats.

6.  My other Pinterest inspiration that I love, even though I haven't used it yet to its full potential because I have yet to find my jewelry from storage somewhere in our basement.  We bought a single towel rack to match the double towel rack and then purchased shower curtain hooks to hold my necklaces and jewelry on!

7.  We added another set of adjustable shelving for pants, shorts and pajamas.  All our shelves are adjustable for maximum space saving and the option to change things around as your wardrobe changes.

8.  Double hanging for maximum storage and use of space.  Good thing Nate is tall, he got the top (for the most part!)

9.  Another item you can find in our baskets: belts.

We also added a deep shelf all around the top for added storage for off season items or bedding, etc.

So there you have it, the lowdown on our master closet.  Maybe there is a little inspiration from it for you!
