From New to Used

Let me tell you, nothing stays new for very long especially around here.  I was smiling to myself as I headed to find Nathan and tell him about the nice gash that had just been added to our brand new floor remembering our conversation earlier that we only asked for there to be no scratches for the first day, I was thinking that maybe we should have extended that request for a few more days.  Oh well, at least you know it's lived in and when it happens again, because with kids you know it will, it won't be such a big deal.

The gash in the floor wasn't the first item to go from new to used in a short amount of time, the kids promptly added some 'paint' to the walls shortly after we finished painting.  I know they just wanted to help and they took it upon themselves to find a bucket with watered down paint and a paint brush that was just laying there ready for them to use and proceeded to the nearest painted wall to help finish the job, one of just many touch-ups to do around the house.

A beautiful new fridge, well when it's your first very new and very big and very pretty fridge, it's just not right to have it stay that way too long or you  might get too used to it.  So Nathan took it upon himself to add a nice scrape along the side of it with the kitchen sink, yep that's right!  Thankfully it was on the side!

Stickers were generously applied to by brand new beautiful picture window, thankfully that one can be fixed with the right product and a little elbow grease.

The floor, well that one happened when my curious little Zeke decided to play with the locking mechanism that keeps the legs on a fold up table from folding up when properly put in it's place, he decided it didn't need to be put in it's place and thankfully I happened to be standing at the table looking on the computer as it began to move.  Just as the words, "why is the table moving?" were coming out of my mouth it fell and I had just enough time to grab the computer but everything else went crashing to the floor, including our microwave which I believe was the culprit for the gash in our new floor.  (but it lasted longer than one day per our request!)

My brand new whirl pool tub is all scratched, we were glad when we were walking through Mendards and saw a touch-up kit for things like that.  That happened before we even moved into that house, thanks to whoever took care of breaking that in for us!

And my washer and dryer... eek!  I was a little sad about their condition when they were brought up from the basement.  But what did I expect after they were moved 4 times!

Like I said, it's good to not get too attached to having things 'new'!

There are multiple holes in our walls, one was mentioned earlier due to plumbing issues.  One is from Nathan thinking an air return was going to be placed there so he took it upon himself to make a hole, come to find out the vent was going on the other side of the wall!  But our most tragic story behind a hole in our wall involved my sweet McKenzie girl who seems to get the brunt of the ouchies around here.  Her loving and caring brother Zeke decided he was so buff that he could carry her around the house not caring to consider that there really isn't that big of a size difference between them.  Well I know he's buff and all but even he couldn't hold on to her for forever.  He made it just around the corner into their bedroom and without warning her (because who has time for that) he promptly dropped her, somehow against the wall.  Life was crazy for the next few minutes at our house.  I had been on the phone with my dad and holding Janessa in my lap when the shrill scream broke the silence of our relatively peaceful home at that moment.  Honestly I thought she was just being over-dramatic when she came and let loose another scream right in Janessa's ear which then made Janessa let loose crying (oh yes, I'm sure you can imagine the scene).  I hung up the phone on my dad and tried to figure out what had just happened and what was hurting on McKenzie which she informed my was her lip (?!?).  So I set Janessa down and looked at McKenzie's lip to which I noticed a slight cut but nothing bad, only to turn around and see a decently large splat of blood on our plywood.  On further investigation there was a trail of blood.  In the moment of chaos my brain must not have been functioning at full capacity (I really don't think it ever does being a mom, but I sure wish it would) I was wondering how so much blood came from her lip when it didn't look like it had been cut very bad but that was the only thing she told me was hurting so I let it go and called my dad back.  Come to find out when I sat down on the bed later to change McKenzie's diaper I noticed a trail of blood down the back of her shirt.  What?!  How could that have come from her lip, her head can't turn that far around!  Then I noticed blood all throughout her hair making it matted and tangled, yep, the lip didn't bleed that much but the gash on the back of her head sure did!  But she never told me her head hurt!  Thankfully it was just a scrape and not a deep gash and by the time I figured it out it had already stopped bleeding and she was her happy self again.
the hole Nathan made

where the hole was suppose to be and he hole Nathan made on the other side of the wall

from McKenzie being dropped, though I'm not sure it's big enough to be considered a hole, it's still a mark that needs to fixed.

No, things don't stay beautiful and new for long, and that's okay.  It doesn't help to get mad, they're just things and my kiddos and family are far more important than things.  And we're left with memories, funny stories (maybe more funny after some time has passed sometimes) and a few scars to remind us to smile and laugh and not worry to much about all the stuff but to be grateful for what's really important: eachother!
