We finally started school this week! I know, much later than probably most everyone but because our vacation took up the majority of the month of September, and we had house quests shortly after we returned home, our school start date was a bit late this year.
And I'm happy to say that our first week went well, I'm encouraged, considering this is week one of the next 16 or so years of my life. ;) We'll just take it one day at a time.
The kids did great and I think it helped that they were really looking forward to school. They've watched some of their friends do their own schoolwork and they've seen the Paulson kids reading their Bibles at church and those things have really motivated them to want to start school so they can learn and read too.
I was nervous. I don't like starting something new, something I've never done before, so the whole idea of such a change in our lives was a little daunting. But thankfully once I got a schedule written up and dived in, things turned out better than I had hoped. Even though we just started I am really happy with the curriculum we chose for this year (which you can read about here). Along with learning their letters and numbers they are also learning about our Lord and Savior, about character qualities and about life lessons which is so important to us. I'm looking forward to how our year unfolds.
What a privilege it is to teach my children. To watch them first hand as they grasp a new concept or to watch them persevere through a difficult task and come out on the other side with excitement as they've conquered it. It was so fun to see the simple improvement just in their first week of school. Such a blessing to my heart. I wouldn't want to miss this opportunity.
And I know it will be a good thing to remember, the simple truth of what a huge blessing it is to be the one teaching my children because I know there will be bumpy roads along the way. Days that don't go as well as others. And that is why I'll purpose to keep my eyes on the Lord, look to Him to be my strength and we'll just take it one day at a time.
So here's to our first week of school!
