A Sweet Friend Visits

I was missing in action for a couple weeks this past month from blogging because we had friend come and visit us during that time.

My wonderful friend Emily came to stay with our family for 3 weeks in November and what a blessing it was to have her here!  With her help we got a ton of projects done around the house and my kids loved her to pieces.  It was so fun to have a friend to sip coffee with each morning and chat about all kinds of things throughout the day.  Laugh together and just to have another set of hands around to help.  Like I said.... HUGE blessing!

I took a step back from blogging during her stay because there was a lot going on between projects and having fun and our share of the holiday sickness.  And the break was kinda nice, I have to admit.  But now that I'm getting back into the swing of things around here again I'll share a couple of the fun projects we accomplished while she was here.

I got the last of the rooms and spaces organized on our main floor that had yet to be touched which included my hall closet, the chest of drawers in our laundry room that house all our mail, pencils, pens and misc. items and our laundry room.  It was such a good feeling for me to have a place for most everything on our main floor and to get rid of those piles of items that were just sitting around with no where to go for as long as we've been in this house.

I always keep my kids clothing because it's cheaper to reuse it all and so we have bins and bins of clothes.  I look forward to the day when we can get rid of it all but for now it's a blessing to have clothes to pass down to each child.  Anyways, that's a job in itself to keep up on that and keep it organized and neat, especially when you get new clothes (or in my case when my mom sends me more clothes) and when you switch out Fall/ Winter clothes with Spring/Summer or into the next size.  And then there's the shoes.  Don't get me started on those.  Anyways with Emily's help and extra set of hands we were able to re-organize all the clothes and get everything in it's place... for now at least!

One of the biggest projects that we completed while she was here, and I must admit I didn't even have this one on my 'hope to complete' list, was the basement.  You've heard me talk about our basement before.  To say it's scary is an understatement!!  I literally didn't even want to go down there.  I would always just ask Nate to find something for me if I needed an item from down there.  But with Emily here to help keep an eye on our kids Nathan and I were able to spend a few days and tackle the basement.  And can I just say that we got it pretty organized for the time being!!  This is huge!!  It actually is looking a bit more manageable and normal down there and not a huge black hole.  And that's not even the best part.  The BEST part is that we were able to clear out the 'living room' area down there and turn it into a functional room for the kids to play in!!  Any mom knows that if you have a room to put the toys in it makes life so much more manageable!  We threw down our extra area rugs and pieces of carpet that were left over.  Our old couch and some extra chairs are also down there along with all the kids big toys and extra toys.  So now they have a large room to go run around in and play in throughout the day, and boy what a great time to get it put together now that winter is here and our days are fewer to play outside.  If you haven't been able to tell yet... I love it!!  And I am so grateful that it was a project we were able to get done while Emily was here!

We also deep cleaned my kitchen and I kept wondering to myself how the shelves could possibly be so dirty but then I realized it had been a year since we put the kitchen cabinets on our wall and I had to remind myself that our house was also built around them so there was a reason why they were so dirty.  And like 'Spring' cleaning always feels nice once it's done the same was true for the kitchen.  Just knowing that everything was clean and re-organized was a nice feeling.  And can I just say that a project like that is so much more enjoyable when it gets done with a friend and not just by yourself!  Thanks again Emily!

We also worked on some fun projects like decorating and making hair bows for my girls.  We had such a blast creating new bows and I was once again glad to do a project like that with a friend.  I had probably bought the supplies to make the hair bows almost a year ago and finally sat down to do it.  The end result is certainly fun seeing the cute bows on my girls' heads!

The tan wall color wants to show up looking more yellow in these photos.. but trust me, it's tan.

Our Sun Room paint color has bothered me from the beginning.  I should have known better when I picked out the paint colors that a 'color' wouldn't last long in this house.  I love neutrals, they don't grow old on me and I can always change out pillows with fun pops of colors or smaller items but when it comes to the walls I need them to be neutral.  So all that being said I wanted to paint over that yellow.  And the exciting new color is tan, same color that is in our entry and hallway but wow does it look so much better, especially next to the cabinets.

The change was slight (and harder to tell from the pictures) but totally worth it!

And through our sickness and after Thanksgiving we had the treat of decorating our house for Christmas!  I absolutely love the cozy feeling of Christmas lights and decorations around the house!  It's bliss.

We had a few fun trips to town and enjoyed Thanksgiving with some wonderful friends and Nathan and I had the treat of being able to go out on a date once a week while she was here which was another HUGE blessing!

Thanksgiving

And though we did work on projects and got a lot of great things accomplished around our house with Emily here it was simply such a treat just to have a friend visit for 3 weeks!  The worst part about having visitors is that they have to leave in the end.  Everyone was so sad to see her go but so thankful for the time we had together.  Thanks again Emily for being such a precious friend and wonderful blessing to our family!  We love you!
